Successful Blogs and websites contain author tags as Google authenticates content with Rel=Author tags to improve user search experience. Google further ranks creditable authors higher, providing better organic SEO ranking to those who have Rel=Author installed. Simply put, websites with Rel=Author rank higher proving it is the original content.
Authenticating your content is achieved through either the installation of a Google Authorship Widget for your Blog (untested), or through the Google+ social network.
If you are using Google+ to author your content, follow these three simple steps:
- Establish a Google+ account.
- On your Google+ page, go to “Profile”, “About”, and then select “Edit Profile”. Under the “Contributor to” section near the bottom of the page, add the website(s) and/or Blog(s) to which you contribute;
- When you are ready to publish an article, link your by-line (e.g., By Joanna) to your Google profile page. An example of the Rel=Author tag I use on this site looks like this:
Add the Authorship Tag to every article you write, and don’t forget to add the Google Rel=Author code to your older articles as well — especially the ones ranking higher in search engines.
